UglyFood Recipes: Fruit Jams

Jams are the most versatile food that we love. From bread spread to sauces to toppings for desserts, it's the best way to lighten up our day, whether we eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Make the perfect, homemade and healthy jam together with your children, family and friends this Christmas and beyond!

So, we're sharing with you our recipe for strawberry apple jam. Let's get jammin'!

How to make strawberry apple jam:

  • 2 x 200 ml jars

  • 400g Frozen Strawberries

  • 2 pc Red Apples

  • 1 - 1.5 cup of Sugar

  • 20 ml Lemon Juice

First, make the frozen strawberries, red apples and lemon juice into a puree in a food blender.

Pour the puree and sugar (amount according to the way you like it!) into a sauce pan. Cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes. Stir the mixture occasionally. The mixture will start with big, juicy bubbles and slowly progress to small, tighter bubbles as the jam gets closer to doneness.

After 20 minutes, to check if the jam is ready to be eaten, dribble some hot jam onto a frozen spoon. Wait for a few seconds for the jam to cool. Use your finger or another spoon to run through the jam. If it does not flow back together quickly, the jam is good to go. If it flows back together quickly, continue cooking the jam until it is ready.

Once the jam is ready, leave the rest of the jam to cool.

Sterilise your glass jar by placing it into boiling water for a few minutes. Pour the jam into the jar. Eat and enjoy!

  • Store the jam in an airtight container in a refrigerator. It will last several weeks.
  • Alternatively, store the jam in an airtight container in a freezer if you intend to keep it for long-term storage for up to three months.
